Defeat Racism at Work

Tuesday, October 20th 8:15 AM – 10:30 AM

Join AzHREF virtually on Tuesday, October 20th for a stimulating and educational session around the mission to end racism and move towards racial equality.  This interactive program lead by local HR leaders, Patricia Davis, TJ Lowery and Shaunna Cooper, will provide us with an overview of the history of racism in the U.S. as well as an awareness to the meaning and impact of white privilege and implicit biases.  This session will also help attendees understand how to talk about racism in a respectful and productive manner as well as provide strategies for companies and individuals to become allies and advocates.

Patricia Davis is an experienced Human Resources leader in organizational effectiveness, leadership development, race equity, inclusion and change management. Patricia held various Human Resources leadership roles at the local Arizona Girl Scouts Council, Intel Corporation, Ford Motor and Kraft Foods, driving the development and implementation of human resources strategies.  Currently, she is the Chief People Officer for ASU Enterprise Partners. In addition, she is the President and CEO of NAAAHR - State of Arizona Chapter and Co-Founder of [email protected] Defeat Racism at Work.  Patricia earned her B.S. in Psychology from Hampton University (HBCU) and her Juris Doctorate from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. Patricia enjoys her family, great restaurants, reading and travelling.  She has been to all ‘seven continents’ including Antarctica.

TJ Lowery is currently the Director of Human Resources at Arizona Boardwalk where she oversees the HR strategy for all 7 attractions owned by AZB including the iconic OdySea Aquarium and Butterfly Wonderland. She is a Realtor and a Veteran who served 15 years in the United States Army. As a Human Resources professional, TJ has a wealth of knowledge which includes leadership development, race equity, total rewards, employee relations/investigations and training. TJ currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer NAAAHR - State of Arizona Chapter and Co-Founder of [email protected] Defeat Racism at Work. TJ focused her studies in Accounting and Human Resources at Ottawa University. TJ is musically trained in several instruments and enjoys the arts, physical fitness and being a mother to her three children who are currently away at college.

Shaunna Cooper is a human resource professional with almost 10 years of experience in recruiting, employee relations, performance management, and most recently compensation. She is currently Sr Compensation Analyst for a consumer directed benefits company. She has a passion for learning, understanding, and sharing racial disparities. She is the co-chair of her organization's diversity & inclusion program and a [email protected] - Defeat Racism at Work facilitator.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University and an MBA from Ottawa University. She resides in Mesa with her husband and two daughters.
